MA show & research festival proposal
MA show proposal
Briefly outline the key subject of your proposed exhibition
I will continue my current exploration of furniture-like objects that combine the language of function and utility with intimate, tactile fabrics like used towels and blankets
Describe what form the exhibition will take
Soft sculpture paired with more industrial elements, a central object with an integrated ‘raised bed’
How many works do you hope to show?
One installed work
What is the scale of the work?
Maximum of approx. 1.5m height and using a maximum of approx. 2*2m floorspace
How do you intend to present the work?
Floor-based installation, potentially sitting on a ‘rug’ of fabric
Do you have any specific requests? e.g. power supply, a corner, floor space, a darkened area? Does the work have the potential to ‘interfere’ with other exhibits (sound etc.)?
A floor space that is positioned fairly centrally in the room. Ambient lighting preferable.
research festival: initial thoughts
first meeting of Birdbath
My peers and I have recently founded a cross-pathway Critical Reflection Salon, Birdbath. In our fortnightly meetings we will share pieces of our written work, discuss selected texts that are relevant to our practices and hold group crits. Outside of the core members of Birdbath, all MA students have an open invitation to share their work or attend our sessions.
The end-of-year MA Fine Art Research Festival would therefore be a great opportunity to facilitate an event like a student panel discussion or a series of presentations with Q&As – where we can share not only our research as individual students but also the discursive contributions of the group. This is a possibility we will discuss in future meetings.
